EDFD 630 Oral Presentation Checklist (print and use during observations)

This is just the Dr.'s rubric broken down into a checklist. I think it could help with observations while checking for the specific aspects needed for the oral presentation. Feel free to use it. - Cindy - (can't figure out how to delete all the bullets & just leave room to type or write)????????

CONTENT - 13 - Points

  • What elements of development and learning were addressed in the behavior of the students and in the approach of the teacher?




  • What instructional methods did the teacher use, and did you detect any matches between those methods and the observed or probable learning/thinking styles of the students?




  • What specific actions did the teacher take to deal with differences (Individual, cultural, gender, etc.)

Summary of Graphic - 8 - Points

  • WHO: teacher, gender, generation, experience, & students, ages, grades, abilities, developmental abilities & levels, learning styles. Others- parents, aides, administrators, observers.




  • WHAT: Academic subject(s), developmental aspects, resources, successes, problems (Note availability and use of tools specifically for addressing various student characteristics, including learning/thinking styles. Look for books, music, audio visual aids, manipulatives, computers, and models - including human ones.

  • WHEN: length of lesson(s), timing of lesson components, time of day as well as season.


  • WHERE: Schools, classrooms, relevant areas within the classroom, etc.


  • WHY: learning goals and objectives, rational for teaching methodologies, developmental explanations for behaviors.


  • HOW: teaching and learning activities and behaviors

Delivery of Presentation - just as a reminder! - 4 - Points

  • Efficient use of time
  • Effective use of summary graphic (and other props if used)
  • Appropriate assignment of information (spoken, visual aids, handouts)
  • public speaking ability (flow, cohesiveness, understandiility, case of delivery
